The Parker- Palm Springs

For those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of LA life, Palm Springs is most likely a weekend destination chosen by many. There are some great Hotels and Resorts available for your choosing, but one in particular is The Parker. The Parker is a great selection for those who are wishing to have a relaxing weekend in a beautiful and accommodating Hotel.

There are three different types of rooms available at The Parker. The first style are the villas,   free standing, these very private one-bedroom suites feature an enclosed patio with a separate service entrance; ideal for a romantic dinner or outdoor massage. Inside, each has a king bed and marble bath. The living room has a great sitting area including a hanging chair and separate wet bar. The patio is nearly as large as the living room, so villas are perfect to enjoy the great weather alone, à deux, or with friends.

The second style of room is, the Patio Room. These Rooms feature an outdoor sitting area, the perfect place to have an in-room massage. The rooms are light and designed in A Mod way but with a hint of countryside to give you that sensation of relaxation.

The third style of Housing are the Estates. These rooms set the basic standard for the estate. Similarly to all the other estate rooms they enjoy the same amenities (Hermès, Molton Brown, Peter Thomas Roth, etc.) and Jonathan Adler décor – at a fraction of the price. Ideal for those who realize that most of their time at the Parker will be spent at the pool, PSYC, playing Pétanque, or dining.

Although this is a great vacation spot, if you happen to be the clients looking for an area to have your wedding, then The Parker is an ideal choice. This is The Parker Hotel's view on weddings, " Here at the Parker Palm Springs we fancy weddings as celebrations of romantic love. We applaud you for finding it. Knowing that this is a once in a lifetime event, the entire affair has to be a blast. From your first look at the engagement ring to the time when the tin cans chase you off our estate, your face should hurt from your never-ending smile. We’ve done this a time or two and we know how to make your wedding a true phenomenon. No need to leave, it's all right here."

Weddings are taken very serious at this Resort and mainly because this establishment wants it to be an experience that is never forgotten, and if your wedding is thrown here, then they will succeed in their goal.

The Parker is a great destination for those who want to relax by the pool, have a fabulous massage, or select this ideal location for their wedding. The Grounds are beautiful and each room is designed effortlessly, and relaxation is the purpose of this amazing Resort. The website and information to contact this Hotel is listed below. Prestigious Sierra Towers

Sierra Towers Sunset Strip's most fashionable residential address is a residential high rise building in West Hollywood, California. Located at 9255 Doheny Road, adjacent to Beverly Hills. The building was designed by renowned architect Jack A. Charney in 1965.

The building is known for being more than 15 stories taller than any other building within a two mile (3 km) radius. Due to Sierra Towers' unique positioning at the base of a hill (the same hill from which Beverly Hills gets its name), the building is the tallest apartment building in the greater Los Angeles Area. Height based on altitude relative to sea level, not number of floors.

A popular past-time of Sierra Towers residents is to boast of a handful of celebrities who own units in the building. Such celebrities include Elton John, Cher, Sharon Osbourne, Joan Collins, Jim Morris, Rachel Zoe, Mathew Perry, Diahann Carroll, and PJ Harvey.

Here was a designed space, created by Steven Autry in the Sierra Towers

Two shots of the living/ Dining room. This also shows the spectacular view that comes with this high priced apartment.

Tavern- Los Angeles

Hey, check out this Restaurant Tavern. Location 1648 San Vicente Blvd, Los Angeles California.

The Tavern fulfills the needs of all different types of customers. There are three different spaces in the Tavern that cater to the customer grabbing a quick coffee and croissant, the customer that wants to relax and have a drink at the bar, or who prefers to have a nice meal in their atrium style dining room.

Tavern is a beautifully designed space with three designated areas. The first area would be "The Larder," which is what is called by the restaurant, and its the front area where people are able to come in and grab some coffee and perhaps a quick sandwich on their way to work. It's very convenient and you are still getting a great gourmet taste. The design is French Country, and is gives you the feeling of comfort and relaxation.

The second space in Tavern is a Bar which they call the "Blue Room." This is a space that a customer may come an relax, and can have a few drinks with friends in a friendly environment. The space is just like its name, blue. The colors are little darker to set the mood of the space. It appears a little more luxurious than the Larder area and is very welcoming for those who want to stop in for a drink.

The third room is the Dining Room. This atrium inspired room has a glass ceiling so the guests of Tavern are able to view the sky. The menu is seasonal so about every 8 weeks the menu is completely different so no matter how many times you go to this restaurant, you can always find a great new meal to enjoy. The space is very open and still follows the feeling of that classic French Country look. It's a very appealing place to have a meal and is not like anything else you will find in Los Angeles.

Keep checking out the blog, a new post will be added every week regarding some aspect of Design. Enjoy!

Hotel Costes- Paris, France

Many people correlate France with their Historical Landmarks and fine cuisine, but incredible design should be added to that list. Researching beautifully designed spaces in Paris, I stumbled on Hotel Costes. The Hotel Costes, is one of the more fashionable Paris luxury hotels. The Costes is a five-star hotel, bar and louge which opened in 1991 under the direction of designer Jacques Garcia, and commisioned by the Costes brothers. Situated right in the heart of the Rue Saint Honoré district, the Costes is frequesnted by wealthy jetsetters and those curious to get a glimpse of the elite lifestyle.

The reviews of the Hotel Costes are very positive in regards to location, and style. The space is very luxurious and designed in the neoclassic style of the Napoleon III period. Included in this Hotel is an underground swimming pool, and also many rooms are famous for being filmed for movies and interviews for fashion and film journals.

There are approximately 83 rooms in the hotel. In the list of hotel amenities are included: in-room wireless Internet access, in-room air conditioning, telephone, television (cable/satellite), free newspaper, in-room safe, daily maid service, balcony/terrace and mini-bar. You also have to know about hotel details: 5 floors with approximately 83 rooms, babysitting or child care, laundry/dry cleaning service, multi-lingual staff, pets allowed, car rental, photocopy service, administrative services, concierge services, currency exchange, fax (for guests), common area wireless access, ATM/bank, room service, restaurant in hotel, indoor swimming pool with its art deco chairs, hot tub, etc.

Th bar, and restaurant have become a very popular place for celebrities and fashionable people  to see and be seen. The Hotel Costes has very luxurious and expensive amenities, but makes it all the more appealing for guests to select to stay here, and experience the design and ambiance that goes with being a guest at the Hotel Costes.

Design in LA with Steven Autry: An Interview With Jean de Mary

Jean de Merry opened their first showroom in Los Angeles in 2001, but the journey to where they find themselves today can be traced back hundreds of years to the limestone plateaux of the Causse Noir in South Central France. By the 19th Century, the leather tanning process of their ancestors had pioneered and cultivated what came to define this rural location as one of the premiere leather manufacturing regions in Europe.

Utilizing long held family secrets; re-creating and refining the process of aging raw hide in order to create hand-crafted goods that look and feel like treasured family pieces, the result was the starting point for the Jean de Merry brand, which resulted in an exclusive, signature line of club chairs. These artisanal pieces are hand-dyed and hand-aged as they were in a wonderful bygone era, when quality and integrity were evidence of a skilled and talented craftsperson.

In what seemed like a natural evolution of their aged leather pieces, they began designing and manufacturing complementary furniture creations with a French deco influence. These custom antiqued mirrored credenzas, vanities and consoles and unique and individual lighting fixtures demonstrate a sense of restrained sophistication that highlights the beauty and importance of balance, proportion and scale.

Today Jean de Merry's visionary line offers flawless execution of subtle palettes, discreet, sophisticated finishes and sleek lines that create a harmonious, artful juxtaposition to the raw beauty of their organically crafted leather pieces. With a strong appreciation and respect for pedigree and community alike, they have created furniture that embodies the classic elements of design while still being original and personal. Never modish but always stylish and relevant, these pieces are the heirlooms of the future. The instinctive and emotional relationship they have with their collection is what defines Jean de Merry as a creative visionary and as an extraordinary brand.

Remains Lighting

Remains Lighting founder David Calligeros launched his successful antiques business on the premise that the best way to sell antiques was to back them up with impeccable customer service. First opened in a Chelsea loft in April of 1996, Remains Lighting sold architectural salvage including antique lighting, bronze grilles, fireplace mantels, stained glass windows and vintage plumbing. Mr. Calligeros personally restored each item he sold to the highest standards, with sensitivity and attention to the requirements of his exacting interior design and architecture clientele. His keen interest in fine metalwork, as well as his desire to have a state-of-the-art restoration workshop devoted to one class of material, pushed him to focus the business on antique lighting. In 1999 he continued this pursuit with the manufacture of his own designs, launching the Remains Lighting Permanent Collection.

Getting to know the man behind the design..

Biography:

Steven Autry developed his unique sense of design at Bergdorf Goodman’s 10,000 square foot home floor in the heart of New York. A key player on a team of 11, they redesigned monthly, keeping pace with the latest fashion in home design. He worked closely with VP of Merchandising, Linda Fargo which was hugely inspirational with her downtown edge coupled with proverbial grace. After attending Rollins college Steven’s experience at Bergdorf made it clear that an education in design is ever-evolving. He learned to make quick decisions based on his own style: a simple, quiet elegance throughout.
He brings with him his key to design: making a house a home is creating a cohesive space that is handsome and distinguished yet comfortable to live in. And every home needs a bit of glamour.
It all begins with the kitchen, where he spends most of his home time. “A well-designed kitchen means everything,” he says. “Kids, grandparents, and dogs all come together there.” It is the ultimate family room. Because of his love of family spaces, Steven chooses quality materials that look better as they wear. There is no other way to design for families with small children.
The house holds the family. All of the rooms of the house should be stream-lined with character, reflecting those who call it home. Art work, plants, and other special accents all create the specific inspiration that light up the rooms. Couple this careful attention with green design and each project creates a better, more inspired world for the clients and our global community.
Steven Autry’s design work is innovative, elegant, and contemporary. He has an extensive background in interior design, including his work at Bergdorf Goodman and three years at a leading design firm in Greenwich CT. He collaborated on a book called “Classic Greenwich Style, “ which highlighted the effortless elegance and contemporary coziness that is synonymous with Connecticut. He also managed all of the stylistic impressions for the photos of the book.
A world traveler and high-energy designer, Steven lives his passion and currently enjoys his own private practice bringing his unique style and philosophy to his clients and their families. He has never been happier than the in the past five years, since founding his private design business in 2005. Steven is Native New York and splits his time between Ny and Los Angles attending to his clients needs.
